SPIRIT is a Bermudian cutter-rigged sloop, and the only Swan 90 with a deckhouse ever constructed. Developed from the successful Swan 86 this is a unique opportunity to purchase such a classic yacht.
She went through a comprehensive refit and upgrade program during 2014 at Yachting Developments Ltd in New Zealand. The key concepts of the refit were to modernize the vessel and provide contemporary living space, to renew equipment and improve reliability and sail handling, all whilst retaining her true heritage. The aft deck and cockpit area were removed to add a new cockpit seating arrangement under a semi-fixed Bimini and the addition of new pedestals and twin wheels (in place of the original single wheel). A new guest cabin was added in the forward area. Skillful use of composite enabled an overall weight reduction of five tonnes, resulting in extra boat speed and manoeuvrability when underway. Due to these major upgrades, she can easily be run with a captain and one crew member.
She has been in private use only since 2017 and has had the same, highly experienced skipper during this time.
The captain and the owners have gradually improved Spirit technically, introducing new battery systems, load management software, backup hydraulics solutions for essential systems. The main sails have been replaced with high performance and robust North 3Di. The engine has been completely dismantled and rejuvenated.
